I don't consider myself a typical teenage girl. And honestly, I think I secretly take some pride in it. But anyways, there are those moments when I stop for a second and realise just how much of a typical girl I am being. And simply enjoy it then.
One of those moments was yesterday when I entered a newsagant's shop shop after school with two friends. Friends? Kim is my best friend but Sandra ... I would lie if I called her a friend. I don't even know why we still hang out. We used to be really close but then high school came and you know what high school does to people. Her speech became loud while her clothes shrunk and the duration of her relationships (be it friendship or romance) got shorter while most of them were with guys and ... Well, let's just say we developed different values. I think the only reason we still chat occasionally is because our friendship didn't end in a fight, it just sort of disappeared.
Anyways, we entered this newsagent's shop and while we were browsing the magazines I thought just how silly the shop assistant must have found us. The minute we got there Sandra said:
"Oh and did I mention that this guy Niki's seeing used to be out maths teacher's schoolmate?"
"Schoolmate? How old is he?"
She nodded with a look in her eyes that was saying My point exactly.
"Now I knew she likes older men," Kim joined in. "But this one must be ... Like 45?"
"At least," answered Sandra and I could hear in her voice just how much she was enjoying our converstaion. "And he has a daughter, too."
"And how old is she? 18, like Niki?"
"Naw, I think she's 12 or something."
"It doesn't really make any difference, does it?"
"Having daughter or not, I think this relationship is just wrong," said Kim and I had to agree with her:
"A man of 45 who thinks and acts appropriate for his age has nothing in common with a teenage girl. Or at least nothing they could build a proper relationship on. And if he's not thinking and acting appropriate for his age ... Well, then he's just messed up and should not be allowed to mess up your life, too."
"Girls, not everyone is looking for a serious relationship," Sandra interupted us. "I'm afraid Niki is, though," she added after a moment.
"And does he know that?"
"I have no idea! Anyways, I gotta go, I'm meeting Niki. If I find out I will most certainly let you know," she grinned. "Bye!"
And we left the shop, obviously without buying anything.
And what do you think about relationships with such a huge age differences? I would ask about gossip, too, but I think talking about people is in human nature, eh?
